Loch Mhor Foyers

Loch Mhor Dam was part of the Foyers aluminium smelter industry, of which the smelter building at Foyers was designed by Inverness architects Cameron & Burnett in 1895 under the supervision of Lord Kelvin working for the British Aluminium company.

The dam at Loch Mhor to the east of Loch Ness now provides the headwater for the Foyers Hydroelectric Scheme operated by SSE. The dam required maintenance and upgrading so we were invited to assist with the Listed Building Consent application for the works.

Foyers Hydro Scheme and Loch Mhor are an ‘A’ listed group and as such a detailed explanation for the reasons for the works needed to be provided, including drawings and visualisations. We provided these support services to ASH Design + Assessment and SSE to facilitate the consent process.

The upgrading works were completed in 2023 to ensure continuity of operation for this essential renewable energy source.
